The grant is aimed at providing technical assistance for studies on dam design, river development, and inter-basin interconnection studies

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has recently approved a grant of €201,000 to Morocco through its Technical Assistance Fund for Middle-Income Countries. The grant is aimed at providing the government with technical assistance to improve water resource management in the country.

The assistance will be provided to the Directorate of Hydraulic Development of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, with two key components. The first component is focused on designing studies for water resource management, including dams and rivers, and interconnections between hydraulic basins. The second component is aimed at ensuring the implementation of the technical assistance and coordinating follow-up activities.

The technical assistance is expected to result in the assessment of the technical feasibility of large and small dams, river protection, and interconnection projects before they are launched. Additionally, the assistance will provide technical expertise to ensure optimal design for the project, and confirm the technical characteristics of complex projects using experts in the field.

With the AfDB’s support, Morocco aims to improve its water resource management and ensure the sustainable use of its water resources.
